Rare and highly sought after 1970 UK very 1st pressing of this prog rock classic on the coveted VERTIGO, large swirl label, 6360 015

Some great guitar and organ work on this underrated album which sold in only small quantities upon it's 1970 UK release.

The appearance of the vinyl is excellent-. Each side of the vinyl has retained an impressive sheen and it's only under a bright light that the usual wispy hairlines and surface only paper scuffs come into evidence, and even then these are minimal. The exception is one very small (0.5cm) scratch (I had to look hard to locate it) which spans tracks 1 and 2 on side 1, resulting in 6 mild clicks towards the end of track 1 and 4 mild clicks on at the beginning of track 2. 

Each label is excellent+. All writing remains perfectly defined, as does the surface texturing and colouring with the coveted large swirl on each side completely untouched.

The iconic Howards Printers non-laminated gatefold sleeve is excellent. The top and bottom edges remain well defined with just minimal scuffing. Similarly the corners remain well defined right angles with just a little rubbing...nothing to speak of really. The spine is rigid and in great format though there are two small (2cm) horizontal creases which do impinge upon the spine about two thirds of the way down - these are not obvious and do not detract from the overall excellent condition. The reverse side is near perfect along with the centre, though there is just the hint of some very minor age discolouration towards the top and bottom edges in the centre. 

Finally, the quality of the audio is an overall excellent-. There is some mild background crackle at the beginning and end of each side and intermittently during a few of the quieter moments elsewhere. There is also the aforementioned 6 clicks and 4 clicks towards the end of track 1 and at the beginning of track 2 respectively. I also noticed two mild clicks during the first track of side 2, though on close inspection the cause is not obvious. Every track makes for a great listen, especially the last two tracks on side 1 and the final track on side 2...each with some great guitar and organ work. Not a million miles from the old Deep Purple, which is hardly surprising since Nick Simper was a Deep Purple founding member.

Comes in the original and classic Vertigo swirl poly-lined inner (a sought after item in it's own right!) with no tears or splits, just some age discolouration, and still fully functional.

In summary, an overall impressive first pressing of this sought after 1970 prog/rock classic.

I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
