WARREN ZEVON "Werewolves of London" 12" PICTURE DISC Rare & Scarce From 1978

FORTY FIVE years ago, in 1978, American singer, songwriter, and rock legend Warren Zevon released a single titled "Werewolves of London", from his album called 'Excitable Boy'. It became Zevon's biggest hit, and one of his best loved, as well. Zevon passed away TWENTY years ago, in 2003. (RIP Warren. You were an incredibly talented musician who was extremely influential. You are missed!)

The great part of this song is it may or may not have been influenced by Lynryd Skynryd's massive hit "Sweet Home Alabama", as the two are similar in style. (That song came out in 1974.) There are special guests for the rhythm section on this track, and that's Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood and John McVie on drums and bass! It's also produced by Jackson Browne (and Waddy Wachtel).

The wolfman on the cover was never credited to anyone, but it looks a lot like Lon Chaney Jr. in his movie role as a werewolf. Lon Chaney and Lon Chaney Jr. both get name-checked on this classic track. The single has the Warren Zevon song "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" on its B side. (That's the two songs on this 12" picture disc single.) Same werewolf pic on both sides.

Unfortunately, the original  die-cut sleeve is no longer available. It will come in a clear PVC jacket. This picture disc with its original sleeve usually goes for big bucks here on eBay, but since the sleeve is not available, the lower price reflects that. The vinyl itself has a few very light surface marks on it, but nothing too bad. No scratches, gouges, or scuffs. (But remember, picture discs this old always sound terrible, with plenty of surface noise.)

A nice collectible, and the perfect gift for fans of the late, great Warren Zevon. Or people who like to collect vintage rock picture discs. Would look great displayed anywhere, and makes a great conversation piece!
