You are bidding for a CLASSIC US 40'S COUNTRY BLUES 78 RPM single by WASHBOARD SAM AND HIS WASHBOARD BAND called EVIL BLUES backed with GONNA HIT THE HIGHWAY - BLUES issued on the BLUEBIRD record label in the US in 1941, cat number B 8997 (BLACK AND GOLD LABEL). The record is in excellent condition with excellent labels .The record has little wear with few slight surface scuffs and plays with no jumps and clicks and a minimum of surface noise. CLASSIC US R& B/ COUNTRY BLUES from WASHBOARD SAM with two great rocking tracks from one of the BLUES PIONEERS who was to have such an influence on the BRITISH SKIFFLE SCENE and and UK BLUES AND ROCK..WASHBOARD SAM original name Robert Brown (July 15, 1910 – November 6, 1966) was reputedly the half brother of BIG BILL BROONZY. In the 20's he performed as a street musician in Mephis with SLEEPY JOHN ESTES'. He then moved to Chicago in 1932, performing regularly with Broonzy, and appearing with him and other musicians including Memphis Slim and Tampa Red on innumerable recording sessions for Bluebird Records.In 1935 he began recording in his own right for both Bluebird, becoming one of the most popular Chicago blues performers of the late 1930s and 1940s, selling numerous records and playing to packed audiences. Between 1935 and 1949 he recorded over 160 sides, including such popular numbers as "Mama Don't Allow", "Back Door" and "Diggin' My Potatoes." His strong voice and talent for creating new songs overcame his stylistic limitations. . A little piece of recording history... RARE in decent condition, from my own collection.
