Few blues recordings carry the quiet authority of this 1964 album from Muddy Waters because Folk Singer strips the genre to its acoustic core. Recorded in Chicago with a small ensemble including a young Buddy Guy, bassist Willie Dixon and drummer Francis Clay, the record trades electric swagger for honest intimacy and plenty of atmospheric space.
