Now based in Amsterdam, long-serving Scottish DJ/producer Vince Watson seems to be in a happy place musically. That generally means dashing between the futurist, melodic, Detroit influenced techno sound with which he originally made his name, and cultured, forward-thinking deep house. 'The Awakening', Watson's latest single on his Everysoul imprint, sits somewhere between the two sounds, with Octave 8 style synth strings, sun-bright pianos and original Belleville Three electronics rising above a hybrid techno/house groove. The ultra-emotive, life-affirming original mix comes accompanied by a slightly stripped-back 'No Strings Attached' take and the rushing, constantly building peak-time nostalgia of the ultra-melodic 'Flashback (edit)'. Classy stuff as ever, all told.
