NOTE: Original US stereo issue with New York USA address on blue and white labels. ‘VAN GELDER' is stamped into the runout on both sides. On Friday, 15 October 1965, Wayne Shorter recorded one of his most progressive albums for Blue Note: The All Seeing Eye. Back then, Shorter, then 32, was a key member of jazz pathfinder Miles Davis’ quintet, having joined the trumpeter’s band the previous year. That was also when the New Jersey saxophonist began a parallel solo recording career at Blue Note Records. Joining him in the studio were two of his colleagues from the Miles Davis band – pianist Herbie Hancock and bassist Ron Carter – plus trumpeter Freddie Hubbard (who doubled on flugelhorn), alto saxophonist James Spaulding, trombonist Grachan Moncur III, and drummer Joe Chambers. On the album’s final track, the septet expanded to an octet with the addition of Shorter’s elder brother, Alan, on flugelhorn.
SIDE 1 and 2: Excellent (EX), The vinyl is in excellent condition with manor faint fine shallow hairs on both sides, paper scuffs and minimal groove wear from play. Most of the luster remains. I played both sides of the record several times and Both sides play through beautifully with no skips or pops, there is some very light background noise occasionally during playback with mostly clean bold audio. The background noise is heard during quiet passes, in between tracks, and on intro and dead waxes.
CONDITION OF SLEEVE: Very Good (VG) Some creases and light scrape marks around cover art from handling, corner bends. All spines are mostly 85% intact. Sean split 3” at the top of the cover, small piece of tape at the bottom cover. But the artwork is still attractive. Please see photos.
