The first, and probably the greatest of all girl groups, the Chantels broke into recording in the late 50's, behind their lead singer Arlene Smith. They were, in fact, so early that the original version of this album, featuring a picture of the group on the cover, was soon withdrawn and, in September 1959, repackaged with a picture of two teenagers picking out a song from a period 1950s jukebox. The back cover features the song list designed in simulated jukebox song labels. The back cover also features pictures of 3 other END record albums released at that time—Rock N' Roll Jamboree, The Imperials featuring Little Anthony, and Flamingo Serenade by the Flamingos. Originally released on the END record label in 1957, the Chantels' debut album consists of their first six singles for the label, resulting in almost a greatest-hits package. This is probably the most seminal and influential record in the 'all-female' chapter of rock and roll history.
