Spirit Man channels the sonic sprawl of the preceding Cosmic Vortex (Justice Divine) to forge a tighter, more focused approach. Eschewing vocals altogether, it's Weldon Irvine's most balanced and complete recording, deftly combining massive funk grooves with ingenious electronic elements. Featuring a supporting cast including bassist Cleveland Freeman, trumpeters Charles Sullivan and Everett "Blood" Hollins, and saxophonist Sonny Fortune, Spirit Man parallels Herbie Hancock's groundbreaking fusion dates in both the imagination and ferocity of Irvine's keyboards as well as the extraterrestrial reach of its electronic effects. This music is deep, funky, and deeply funky.

Weldon Irvine, of course, was the founding father of Acid Funk-Jazz. We proudly present here one of his finest works, the mega-rare Cosmic Vortex (might as well have be titled: Cosmic Funk). This is a Funk that is  both Rare and Weldon(e).

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(b)            The record is  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP   (A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        A minor dusty stain affects the area about 4 square inches in size (VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY) along the bottom seam; there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is faintly visible and has caused  a slight warp in one cover, which we guarantee will NOT affect the vinyl inside.  The dusty spots can almost certainly be removed with a minor effort once the shrink wrap has been removed.

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along bottom seam and the spine (nothing significant)

-        The cover has a few pressure points and lines (as if someone attempted to write on it with the ballpoint pen, but ran out of ink) (the date of 4-18-75 impressed - not written - in one corner on the front side)  (BARELY VISIBLE)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No ring wear

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No yellowing from aging

-        No writing

-        No stamps   (except for the promo stamp)

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
