‘WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAYS’ Fairport Convention, ISLAND LP - RARE provenance

During a major house declutter, I’ve decided to sell good deal of my 60s memorabilia –

from 45rpm vinyl singles....to albums....to music programs....to posters:

most of which have been stashed carefully away and haven’t seen the light of day.

This is an auction for my RARE copy of FAIRPORT CONVENTION ‘s second (breakthrough)  album

WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAYS.

This is a stereo copy – Island ILPS 9092A.

For me, and others who saw Fairport regularly at the time, this was Fairport’s finest line-up:

the perfect symmetry of musical talents and

a bag full of wonderful, eclectic songs.

This has some provenance as it was given to me by my schoolmate and friend

MARTIN LAMBLE and his girlfriend Helen for my birthday,

exactly 43 years ago!

I have several photographs (and quotes) of Fairport in Patrick Humphries biographies of

Fairport and I’m also quoted in Humphries’ biog of Richard Thompson.

Martin sadly died three months later but he was a genuinely lovely young man

 with a very rare talent.

Even after 40+ years of listening to Martin’s playing he was incredibly sensitive and

melodic, moving even.

On songs like Time Will Show the Wiser, Meet on the Ledge, I’ll Keep it with Mine and

Genesis Hall, Martin displayed a remarkably mature gamut of control,

thoughtfulness, power and drama.

There is no doubt, in my mind that had Martin lived he would have become a most

sought-after drummer and, while the catalogue of his recordings is far too short,

his musicianship contributed to the magic of the

burgeoning Fairport Convention.

For those of us who saw Fairport at the time, this album remains an underrated, eclectic delight.

The album has been underplayed for near on 40 years and I’m presuming that

it’s in EXCELLENT condition:

both sides’ surfaces look IMMACULATE (as new).

It has been stored carefully and treated with the utmost care.

The album has been unplayed for near on 40 years, has been treated with the utmost care

and it is in EXCELLENT condition (though there is a 3-way crease on the rear cover). 

I can only presume that the sound quality is terrific as the vinyl surfaces look

IMMACULATE (as new).

I always pack my winning auctions thoroughly and I like to get items in the post within 3-5 days.

Post and packing is not negotiable but, where possible, I always combine post+packing for multiple purchases.

I always get a Certificate of Posting (for winning auctions under £47 within the UK) which allows me to make a claim against the Post Office.

If the final auction price is over £50, I can quote for added insurance which I recommend; this is especially so for overseas packages.
