HERE'S that quintessential Scotsman, SIR HARRY LAUDER (1870 - 1950), singing two of his venerable, hearty songs, re-creating his stage appearances: "WHEN I MEET MACKAY," and "THE END OF THE ROAD." Accompanied by impressive vocal and instrumental forces - including a bagpiper on "MacKay" - Sir Harry wends his indomitable and jokified way through these extended (12-inch) sides.
What makes this particular Harry Lauder disc extra-special is that it's an ELECTRICAL recording. We have only the acoustical records of Bert Williams and Enrico Caruso - they died too soon! - and always wonder how they might have sounded after 1925, in Western Electric high-fidelity. Sir Harry, like Williams and Caruso, began his recording career in 1902, but survived intact well into the era of electrical recording. So we can hear his undimmed essence (and brogue!) in these technically brilliant 1926 performances.
This "catalogue pressing" of a twelve-inch 1926 Victor Red Seal 9024 is in splendid EE+ condition. Original metals and pre-war shellac used, and lovely, crisp sound on this late (ca. 1941) edition.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
