The Upholsterers' "Makers of High-Grade Suites" 7-inch came out in 2000, in between the WHITE STRIPES' "The Big Three Killed My Baby" and "Hello Operator" singles. The band is JACK WHITE on guitar and vocals, with his friend Brian Muldoon playing drums. (Better drummer than Meg, if you ask me, though not half as cute...)
It's basically the "secret" FOURTH WHITE STRIPES SINGLE, under a different name, and with a different drummer.
Sympathy for the Record Industry only pressed a few hundred copies, and it's never been repressed or otherwise reissued. This makes it the RAREST of the early White Stripes recordings (though it isn't "officially" a White Stripes recording at all). Features an otherwise unrecorded Jack White original called "Apple of My Eye", along with covers of Willie Dixon's "Superstitious" and Jack Starr's "Pain (Gimme Sympathy)". TOTALLY, TOTALLY KICK-ASS MATERIAL ALL THE WAY. Fully up to Jack White's very high standards.
Comes with all kinds of crazy inserts related to the "Upholstery" theme: business cards (with JACK WHITE's old Detroit PHONE NUMBER hand-crossed-out in black Sharpie, but still legible), an UNUSED "Third Man Upholstery" sticker, and a very unlikely "fabric sample".
It's black vinyl, and as far as I know, that's the only color it ever came on. It was bought new in 2000, and has been played rarely (10 - 12 times, max). I'm not a professional record evaluator, but I'd say that it's in GREAT shape. Clean, no noise, no visible wear. Maybe not truly mint, but close enough for listening purposes. Cover and inserts are undamaged.
