Description
This is a rare original cutting of a WHK-WJAY Broadcast Transcription Disc (recorded off line from D.C. ?) featuring President Franklin D. Roosevelt's speech on April 17, 1939, during the National Parole Conference (transcript below of speech). This is a lacquer disc made of a nitrocellulos acetate coating over an aluminum base and plays back at 33 RPM. It is a unique piece of history and a must-have for any collector of spoken word recordings. The record label is WHK-WJAR, - United Broadcasting Company of Iowa. The original sleeve is serviceable but has nothing particularly distinguished about it and can easily be replaced with an archival acid-free sleeve. I have graded the disc as excellent (EX) as it does not appear to have been played more than once or twice since it was cut. Don't miss this opportunity to own a significant piece of broadcasting history.
Note: I've not played the disc so I can't confirm it is indeed his address to at the National Parole Conference at the White House which is listed at the FDR Library as his broadcast speech for that date. But it likely is. The two sides are nearly full and typically these discs get about 15 minutes per side running at 33 rpm using a 2.3 mil stylus.
