ORIGINAL UK VIRGIN (V 2035) FIRST PRESSING (1975) OF THE FINNISH ART ROCKERS "Nuclear Nightclub" LP WHICH WAS HOPED WOULD BE THEIR BREAKTHROUGH WORK WHEN RELEASED IN THE UK BUT IT NEVER TOOK OFF (BAD TIMING? ABOUT 3 YEARS TOO LATE AND PUNK WAS IN THE WINGS) SO IS PRETTY HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS AS IT SOLD PRACTICALLY NOTHING
AND THIS COPY IS IN SUPERB CONDITION (looks and sounds like it has hardly ever been on a turntable) AND WHEN PLAYED AT A LOUD VOLUME (which is the way I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) THE AUDIO DELIVERY IS SENSATIONAL - DEEP, RICH AND WARM AUDIO WITH A DECIDEDLY PROGGY CANTERBURY SOUND

When Finnish band Wigwam signed with England's Virgin label in 1974, it was an indication they wanted international success, and Nuclear Nightclub, the first fruit, showed they'd changed enough to hopefully achieve it, with wonderfully idiosyncratic songs from the pen of Irish keyboard player/vocalist Jim Pembroke, backed up with some superb, tight musicianship.
The band toned down the extended pieces and instrumentals that had featured heavily on its previous albums in favour of new work like "Freddie Are You Ready"and "Save My Money and My Name," while the playing on "Do or Die" was exemplary.
In many ways they allied themselves to the British Canterbury Scene, especially Caravan, with a strong sense of the absurd, a good sense of song structure -- choruses always featured heavily -- and a deftness and lightness of touch that was never more in evidence than on this record.

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with just one/two light spindle traces - hardly played
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces retain their original deep, like-new glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - the record is as-new
VINYL Audio: Plays beautifully throughout with a crystal clear, rich and detailed sound (very nice warm cut) and on playback at a very loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no surface noise and no clicks or pops. The sound quality is simply sensational throughout and the whole LP plays to the highest possible standard with all frequencies bright and clear, no groove-wear and no distortion. Graded NEAR MINT for audio (at least) this is a fantastic copy and they really don't come much better
SLEEVE: The single matt cover is also in practically untouched condition with crisp, sharp edges and spine where all text is clear and bold - NEAR MINT
and the original Virgin inner is clean and unmarked with no splits - again, NEAR MINT
