This is my EX / EX / EX copy (non-laminated gatefold sleeve and 2 records) of this truely 'different' offereing from WILD MAN FISCHER (Larry Fischer), recorded and produced by Frank Zappa and released in the UK in 1969 on Reprise Records with the correct UK 'steam boat' labels! I got this one when it came out as I was Zappa / Mothers fan and it is very special, as was Larry himself. Over 4 sides we feel the pain and the pleasure of being someone with mental health problems who is getting what they wanted - to make a record of their songs and to talk about their difficult life. Now, if it was released in the PC world we live in today I'm sure the whole project would be damned in the press as Zappa 'capitalising' on a mentally ill person, but back then we just liked 'Larry' and laughed along when he wanted us to laugh and felt suitably uncomfortable when we should have! My favourite track to this day is still 'Jennifer Jones (Is Lying Dead On My Porch)'. Now if ever there was a track to get the PC brigade going, then this must be it, but it is funny...gruesome, awful and Larry uses the 'N' word as well, but the track is a story and it is funny - Girl character (voiced by Larry) with trembling voice - "Oh no...have you seen all those dead bodies in your garage?". Larry - "It's my garage...I've seen 'em!". You can hear that one for yourself now on Youtube and make your own call! Also this album contains one of Zappa's best Psych style solos...Larry is excited at being in a recording studio and wondering where it will eventually take him and says, "Can you see me...can you imagine me with one of those big guitars....going..." and Zappa cuts superbly to himself on lead 'fuzz' guitar, with the Mothers blasting along! A great moment and a great solo from Uncle Frank!! So as you can see there is a lot of 'love' for this album here, but its time for me to move it on to a new home! The four sides of the album are entitled 1- "The Basic Fischer", 2 - "Larry's Songs Unaccompanied", 3 - "Some Historical Notes" & 4 - "In Conclusion". The non-laminated gatefold sleeve is in great general condition and has lived in a plactic sleeve for most of its life. The rear of the gatefold has a great 'Live' shot of Larry on stage with the original Mothers line-up. The spine is strong and fully readable, with just a tiny sticker removal mark on the front and a hint of ring wear (please see pictures) reducing it from MINT! The two records look like new, with clean and shiny vinyl. One of the two original inner bags has a coffee stain! There are a couple of almost invisible surface marks that do not effect play and it is in truely great nick. However, please remember most of this double set is 'spoken word' and so there are lots (and lots!) of quiet bits, but if there is any noise it will just be age and dust! A truely great EX / EX / EX copy.
