On offer is the 1969 double album by WILD MAN FISCHER called AN EVENING WITH… on BIZARRE/REPRISE, catalogue number RSLP 6332.
In which Frank Zappa indulges the self-deluded rantings of diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic LARRY FISCHER over two fascinating, if uncomfortable, LPs. Zappa discovered Fischer busking on Sunset Strip, and combined street field recordings and studio recordings, together with stoned celebrations of the Wild Man myth from such as Kim Fowley, Rodney Bingenheimer and sundry GTOs. it’s a vivid document of sixties countercultural excess, as Zappa exploits his savage naïf with the energy of a Victorian tentshow proprietor with his own Elephant Man. It all went horribly wrong. Fischer nearly hit Zappa’s infant daughter Moon Unit with a thrown bottle. The ill feeling means that Zappa’s widow has never sanctioned the re-release of An Evening With…, making it one of the rarest records on Straight/Bizarre. This is the original UK issue, on Reprise Records, with the early steamboat label design. Wild Man Fischer died in 2011.
The vinyl is EXCELLENT, free of clicks, ticks and pops, and with no surface noise and definitely no jumping. The gatefold sleeve is EXCELLENT MINUS to VERY GOOD PLUS, with some ringwear and general grubbiness but no tears or writing. The Reprise ‘steamboat’ labels are clean with minimal spindle-wear. The records come in the original inner sleeves.
