Description

Up for auction is Columbia Masterworks Set M-386, seven 12-inch 78rpm discs, circa 1938.

The English Music Society Volume II: Music of Arnold Bax.

William Primrose & Harriet Cohen (viola & piano) play:
Sonata for Viola & Piano
(complete on 7 sides)

Griller String Quartet, with Watson, Slater, Thurston,
Goosens, Korchinska (bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, harp) plays:
Nonett, for nine instruments
(complete on 4 sides)

Leslie Woodgate, conducting the BBC Chorus, performs:
Mater ora filium
(complete on 3 sides)

Condition: discs are in very nice E+ condition. The album folder is worn, but still serviceable. The original notes are missing, but the set comes with the booklet of notes that was issued with the English edition of this set. The set also comes with an 8" x 10"  publicity photo of William Primrose (see scan 6).

Grading scale: N, E, VG, G (+ or - signs will modify the basic grade for slightly better or worse).

Shipping: shellac 78s are placed between squares of cardboard, bound with tape, then floated in styrofoam in the box.
This method of packing has proved extremely effective over the years for shipping fragile shellac 78s.
