        For sale   WILMOUTH  HOUDINI  with  GERALD  CLARK'S  NIGHT OWLS.  Book of 4 x 78 RPM 10" on BRUNSWICK , Album B-1023 COLLECTORS' SERIES, # records are:  7129, 7201, 7219, 7224  . Original  1946 US pressing. Condition  Records: NM to M / Labels: Near Unplayed. All the records play perfectly. The book in sturdy cardboard is still in excellent condition. There is a 12 pages booklet with text and songs, with the translation of the French, slang and double meaning words. The music his pure early CALYPSO and the recordings are from 1931. The orchestration is with cornet, clarinet or saxophone, piano, guitare, banjo or quatro, string bass and scratcher. The musicians are all from the West-Indies, except for the string bass. At first playing, we think about the music from that time, I mean the early Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton or King Oliver. There is excellent trumpet and clarinet solos and a lot of melting improvisation "à la New-Orlean".  The difference is with the songs which are REAL CALYPSO. Earing this set of excellent music, it's easy to think that WILMOUTH  HOUDINI  could influences such great calypsonians as ROARING LION, LORD INVADER, LORD BEGINNER or KING RADIO. He was the first great calypsonian to come in America. The music style is more with Afro-American Jazz mood than the MENTO style from Jamaïca (let's have a look on my other sales). There is still traces of the early Calypso into the actual Trinidadian KAISO style. So, here is a great oportunity to own this rare music at the same time than a page of the history of the WEST-INDIES music into a set in superb condition.
