HERE'S blues singer and harp master SONNY BOY WILLIAMSON, in his 1944 contribution to the war effort (WWII, that is). It's his violent ode, "WIN THE WAR BLUES." How could we not win, with Williamson on our side:
Uncle Sam is gonna give me a Thunderbolt
He wants me to fly way about the cloud, (2x)
He wants to drop a bomb on the Japanese,
I really gotta make my baby proud!
I wants a machine gun
And I wants to be hid out in the wood (2x)
I wants to show old man Hitler
That Sonny Boy don’t mean him no good!
I wants to drop a bomb
And set the Japanese city on fire (2x)
Now because they are so rotten,
That I’d just love to see them die!
I’ve got the victory blues
Because I know I have got to go (2x)
Now to keep the dirty Japanese
From slippin’ in through my baby’s back do’!
"CHECK UP ON MY BABY" is on the flip. Probably checking for those "dirty Japanese"!
THIS original 1944 Bluebird 34-0722 is in sweet E condition.
