Red Rose Speedway is the second studio album by Paul McCartney and Wings. The album was released in 1973 after the relatively weak commercial performance of Wings’ previous album, Wild Life and reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and "My Love" was a No. 1 single in the US and the most popular track from the album. Offered here is the 1973 UK first pressing (Apple Records/The Gramophone Co. Ltd.), catalog number PCTC 251 / SMAL-3409, was recorded in England and is noted for its superior mastering compared to domestic cuts. McCartney himself produced this album.
On the back cover of the gatefold jacket, McCartney placed an embossed Braille message on the back of the jacket to Stevie Wonder which says: "We love you."
It was a direct, tactile tribute from Paul McCartney to Stevie Wonder. At the time, Paul was a huge fan of Stevie's work (this was just before they eventually collaborated on "Ebony and Ivory" years later). Since Stevie obviously couldn't see the album artwork, Paul wanted him to be able to "read" the gatefold himself. It’s one of those legendary classic rock easter eggs that really highlights the high-production value of those early 70s UK pressings.
This UK Grammaphone pressing includes the original hype sticker affixed to the upper corner of the gatefold jacket. The 12-page full-color booklet remains securely pasted to the inner spine and is in pristine condition; a rarity these days as they are usually ripped out or tossed completely. There is also a cool ad at the bottom of the jacket inviting to join the Wings Fun Club address (London W11 4UP).

Because I am a collector myself, I don't just "look" at records — I play test them (when they aren't sealed!) So how did this do? Upon initial playback, this album sounded dark and a bit noisy. After a couple of tracks, I put it on my VPI HW-17 Professional Record Cleaner for a deep clean. During that process, I heard a minor suction anomaly which revealed a minor "pinch warp" on the very outer edge. I was surprised it was not audible during the initial play-test, as it did not affect tracking as you might expect it would. Following the cleaning, the previous surface noise was significantly reduced, and the high-fidelity and dynamic range of this Gramophone pressing seemed to be restored. It is no longer dark, and has a MUCH quieter background. It now sounds bright and clear, with just a minimal amount of noise—and I do MEAN minimal. Even die hard condition freaks will find this enjoyable to listen to.

Because the post office is so incredibly inept, I ONLY SHIP domestic packages INSURED, which is AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED in the shipping cost, and that is not free as the post office charges for it. If your parcel gets lost OR damaged in freight, your item will be replaced if one is available OR you will be completely refunded!
IMPORTANT MONEY SAVING TIP! If you are buying more than one of my items and would like to SAVE MONEY by COMBINING SHIPPING costs, I will be happy to do so, but eBay has now made it more difficult to get discounts by confusing people with "Buy it Now" and "Add to Cart" options on non-auction style pages. If you are buying one item from a seller use the Buy it Now. BUT IF YOU WANT COMBINED or FREE SHIPPING, DO NOT USE THE BUY IT NOW button! Instead, select ADD TO CART. REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT SHIPPING TIMES:
Media Mail (once known as 4th class mail) is a special class of postage for books, music, videos and other printed media available within the US and territories. It is far less expensive than Priority Mail, but - it ..... is ........... slooowwwww!!!! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, MEDIA MAIL CAN actually TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! PLEASE remember this when you leave feedback scores as the choice is yours and not my fault if it takes a long time to get there! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don't write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don't have a clue!
