VINYL is VG / VG+
Visual grade, due to small scattered surface marks, a few on Side one (VG+) - more on Side 2 (VG). Hard to determine if these are from the pressing itself or actual tiny scuffs, but thorough PLAY TEST reveals only one (1) audible spot on Side One that clicks quietly for a few revolutions at very end of 1st song fade-out - and only one (1) audible spot on Side Two that makes a click sound below the music on 3 revolutions - you may miss this one entirely unless you are listening very closely. Otherwise LP plays a very clean EX+ to NM throughout. Overall sound quality of this pressing is phenomenal - Crisp, bold and full-throated. Other than marks mentioned above, vinyl is very glossy and clean. Labels are both clean with no spindle marks.

COVER is VG+
Crisp, clean, solid Pebble-textured cover has tiny date "12-4-81" in ball point, on FRONT, upper left. Almost no wear, scuff or rub to the front, though there is a light vertical score mark at top center. BACK cover shows mild ring rub and a few scattered small scuffs. Opening edge is a bit 'wide' open, though lays nice and flat within the poly outer sleeve. Lightly bumped, sill sharp, corners. Seams and spine 100% intact with no wear or splits. Spine titles are clear, sharp and completely legible.

EXTREMELY RARE and HIGHLY SOUGHT original 1981 PARK AVENUE Pressing

PARK AVENUE Promotional Insert promoting this LP included. Overall very clean with no creases or soil. "PLAY COPY" written in blue ball-point at top and there is a vertical score through top center (neatly and tightly closed from behind with single strip of archival document repair tape - nearly invisible).
...INSERT (with protective backing card) enclosed inside a separate clear poly envelope.

*This LP was sent to my record store in 1981 by Park Avenue - but ’never arrived’ … guess I let Lance (my Best Friend, employee and former ‘owner’ of this LP) open the store that day. Imagine my surprise to find it - complete with the “PLAY COPY” marked promo insert - 42 years later in his collection … hmmmm, it’s tough when your best friend is as mad of a Vinyl Hound as you are. All is forgiven. - and GREG, if you happen to read this: No, sadly we never played it in the store - surely would have if it had actually hit my desk. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________
A grizzly, furious beast of a 30-minute record, YOUTH OF AMERICA saw Greg Sage and his Wipers lengthening some of their material to at-the-time very unfashionable lengths; many a hardcore punk band of the time could tuck a dozen songs about Reagan and fisticuffs inside the title track alone. As opposed to the compromised Wipers debut: “Is This Real?”, YOUTH OF AMERICA was engineered and recorded in-house; Sage's time spent in a professional setup for the earlier LP frustrated him, and the fact that he's gained complete control here makes it seem as if a cork has been pulled from a bottle.

The shackles are off and the group's own personality hits full bloom. Vocally, Sage sounds like a sleepless outcast loaded on an unhealthy amount of caffeine, fraught with a magnified level of paranoia and angst that needs immediate purging -- often, his life seems to be depending on it. Title track “Youth of America" itself is a nightmare locomotive, a ten and a half minute exploding storm through a persistent rhythm, screeching/careening/wailing guitars, and jarring psychedelic effects. The remaining five songs, which don't lessen the intensity very much, are solid in their own right, with generally more straight attack delivery than the harrowing title track.

who was a DJ at the Radio Station I co-founded in the 1970's - and who worked for me at my California record store in the '70s and '80s. . Sadly he has now left this mortal coil, bequeathing me his deep Vinyl Mine.
