Description

THIS IS A VERY FIRST PRESS OF WISHBONE ASH CLASSIC ALBUM ARGUS.
ONE OF THE FIRST 300 EVER PRESSED. 1ST MOTHER AND VERY FIRST UK PRESS STAMPER 1-B
MATRIX - 7-LNMG-256-1L
In normal light the Lp looks in stunning condition. I have examined both sides in very strong halogen lighting and there are a few very light marks, which I would say are consistant with paper scuffs. This Lp is nearly 40 years old and any marks present are minimal for the age of it.  They have absolutely no adverse effect on the sound quality.
There is a bit of very light surface noise in a couple of quieter passages, but the sound is absolutely stunning. Superb depth, imaging and bass. I have played this LP up against various other vinyl presses and CD versions and it simply wipes the floor with them.
It is so hard to find one of the very first presses of any recording and so many people advertise lps as "first presses" just because the matrix numbers read A1 - B1, etc. This Lp has the extremely rare 1B stamper, which indicates it is one of the first 300 lps ever pressed.  Most companies used no more than around 300 presses for each stamper and would then move onto the next. MCA at this time used Decca to press the lps and the stamper variations were identified by the word BUCKINGHAM. the first stamper would be marked with the letter B, the second U, third C and so on, CBI would be the 325th, etc. As previously stated this is marked B, which is almost impossible to find, especially in this condition. Anyway, down to the important stuff, condition.  I have been very conservative on the gradings as i do not want anyone to be disappointed  with the LP, but here goes.
Gatefold sleeve - EX, spine is good and strong, no ringwear at all. there is a small mark to the top of the sleeve on the edge.
Inner - EX, this lp has the original blue / white inner sleeve and bears the date 4-72
Vinyl, EX, Original blue/black labels. Both sides under normal light look mint, strong halogen shows very light scuff marks and the like. Sounds stunning. Slight surface noise in places.
LP will be sent with a 400g polythene outer and Nagaoka style inner.
Postage costs are listed, but please bear in mind if the item is sent to certain locations worldwide, postage my be slightly more. PLease contact me prior to bidding for costs.
