Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! 1st UK pressing of Wishbone Ash "Wishbone Ash Four" album  on the MCA labels.  This album was purchased from new and originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!! Features the earliest possible 1L and 1L Matrix endings (Only 1st UK press)!   This album is complete with the original and beautiful 1st issue un- laminatred gatefold cover and super large lyric and picture poster in near mint condition!  The audio is truly stunning through out! The audio is graded at Near as Mint in my opinion!  No loud constant clicks or pops! So rich and vibrant throughout! Looks and sounds like it has barely ever ever been played at all in my opinion! One of the best ever sounding copiers that I have heard! Visually I struggle to see no more than a whisper of spider traces on the labels only! rarely seen complete like this!

Wishbone Ash are a British rock band who achieved success in the early and mid-1970s.




Their popular albums included Wishbone Ash (1970), Pilgrimage (1971), Argus (1972), There's the Rub (1974), and New England (1976).




Wishbone Ash are noted for their extensive use of the harmony twin lead guitar format which had been attracting electric blues bands since Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page had played together in the Yardbirds in 1966.





Their contributions helped Andy Powell and Ted Turner to be voted "Two of the Ten Most Important Guitarists in Rock History" (Traffic magazine 1989), and to appear in the "Top 20 Guitarists of All Time" (Rolling Stone). Melody Maker (1972) described Powell and Turner as "the most interesting two guitar team since the days when Beck and Page graced The Yardbirds". They have been cited as an influence by Iron Maiden founder and bassist Steve Harris, as well as Thin Lizzy and other dual guitar bands.





Formed in Torquay, Devon, in 1969, out of the ashes of trio The Empty Vessels (originally known as The Torinoes, later briefly being renamed Tanglewood in 1969), which had been formed by Wishbone Ash's founding member Martin Turner (bass & vocals) in 1963 and complemented by Steve Upton (drums and percussion) in 1966. The original Wishbone Ash line-up was completed by guitarists/vocalists Andy Powell and Ted Turner. In 1974, Ted Turner left the band, and was replaced by Laurie Wisefield. The band continued on with strong critical and commercial success until 1980.




Wishbone Four is the fourth studio album by British rock band Wishbone Ash, released in 1973.




It was a departure from their previous album, Argus, in that it lacked that recording's overall cohesion and atmosphere and the loose conceptual framework of a stately, pastoral and warring medieval England.




Containing only hints of the extended twin-lead guitar harmonies, Wishbone Four's stylistic variety found its footing in acoustic folk elements in half of the eight-song set ("Ballad of the Beacon", "Everybody Needs a Friend", "Sorrel" and "Sing Out the Song"), two aggressive and melodic starters on each side of the vinyl release (Side 1: So Many Things to Say" and Side 2: "Doctor"), and the band's first use of horns on the semi-autobiographical "rave-up" touring song "No Easy Road".






Although the sombre, sensitive and rather more fragile acoustic songs contained the wistful intro elements that featured on the previous album, the lead guitars lacked the slow climb of the band's trademark duelling crescendos and energetic fretwork expected from the band at the time, tending to a more subtle and subdued interplay on the longer tracks. Wishbone Four was popular among fans upon its release as it implied musical growth and a willingness to experiment in the band's divergence of a successful formula (similar at the time to the effect of Led Zeppelin III's contrast to that band's previous efforts).






Wishbone Four was also the first release not produced by Derek Lawrence but by the band themselves.






There's the Rub, the band's next and fifth studio album' was the first album to feature guitarist-vocalist Laurie Wisefield, who would be a major part of the band's creative direction for the next 11 years, as founding member Ted Turner left the band after the subsequent Wishbone Four tour.

The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks absolutely superb, Just like it has just come from the shop in my opinion, and I can't see or feel any scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs and sleeve removal type only.. ,  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new.  (no) deep needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st pressings! Note! This is the best sounding copy that I have heard,, so vibrant and clear, you will not find a better sounding album!  Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for a 1st pressing. The audio is graded at Near as Mint in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 43 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick or isolated pop but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 43 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely ever played, I would even say looks totally unplayed in my personal opinion (No spider marks or traces!), at least no more than one or two times in my opinion and the audio quality superbe on all frequencies.
 
The labels
This features the black "MCA" labels. These are superbe Just barely a whisper spider traces only on the labels, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware! This vinyl looks almost as unplayed in my personal opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original white poly lined sleeve. No splits or tears. Superb for 43 years old like this!  The vinyl is now and has always been stored seperately from the sleeve. Note This is the original!

The cover
The original 1st issue un-laminated gatefold cover  cover is absolutely superbe!  Rarely seen in decent top  condition like this one.  There are (no) edge splits or tears.   The spine is generally lovely and  square with some creases/crushing only.   A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!   No rubbing or ring wear worth to mention on the front or rear. (minor rubbing at the edges but you have to look to notice.) No real nasty creases at all, Any other imperfections/indents/impressions, are not noticed unless looked for in my opinion. Note: impressions/indents only noticed if looked for on the front and rear of the gatefold.  Must be at least better than Excellent to Excellent plus  in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 43 years on this cover!

The Poster
This is the original 1st issue UK large poster!
This is almost like new, never been put on a wall in superb condition! (see photos)
