It was my understanding that only about 1,250 of these records were produced before the stamper was broken, but I have since learned that there were closer to 5,000 produced before the the stamper was ultimately broken. My apologies for the mis-communication. I have canceled all bids in the event that someone had placed a bid accordingly.



Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab

In 1977, Brad Miller founded Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, an organization dedicated to faithful sound reproduction. By slowing down the mastering process to "half-speed," by making use of a master tape as close to the original as possible, and by using high quality "virgin" vinyl made by the Japanese Victor Company, Mobile Fidelity set out to issue a series of Original Master Recordings in higher quality than commonly available to the general public.

The first Original Master Recording album was issued in February, 1978. As the process gained popularity -- especially after the release of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in 1979 -- it was inevitable that Beatles records would be issued through Mobile Fidelity.

The first Beatles record to be issued by MFSL was Abbey Road, in December of 1979. The original pressings quickly sold out, resulting in several subsequent production runs. With the popularity of this album, MFSL then released Magical Mystery Tour in February of 1981 and the White Album in January of 1982. June, 1984 saw the release of Rubber Soul. Sgt. Pepper and Help were released in 1985. All of these albums are estimated to have had production runs of around 50,000 albums each.

In 1986, Revolver came out on LP. By this time, however, many audiophiles had heard that the Beatles catalog was being "worked on" for eventual release on compact disc. With that, the album series lost some of its popularity. Therefore, the "later" record releases are all harder to find than are the "earlier" ones. From November of 1986 through January of 1987 the company released all of the remaining Beatles LP's: Please Please Me, With the Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, Beatles For Sale, Yellow Submarine, and Let It Be.

Now, Getting to this album up for sale today...

This is hands-down the RAREST of all Beatles albums produced by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. The stamper was damaged during production and because the contract to release Beatles records and tapes was about to expire, it was never replaced. This resulted in a very limited production run.

This album is STILL SEALED in the original packaging. It is in MINT CONDITION.

You'll notice in the photo that about a 1/2 inch of the perforation has come loose at the bottom over the years. Additionally, at the top corner there is a small amount of perforation that has come loose as well. This of course is rather insignificant, given that the album obviously hasn't had the chance to escape the original wrapping. Additionally there are remnants of a price sticker in the top right corner. Because of the collectible nature of this album, I didn't want to leave any detail unmentioned..
