There are unique characteristics of these  pressings that can only be found on Decca contract press. There is no tax code on either side of the disc. The labels feature a distinctive deeper groove or ridge approximately 31mm from the centre hole and a light ridge 5mm in from the centre hole. Also these have no stamper letters  at 3 o’clock position.

ALBUM DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)

With the Beatles' second British album, recorded four months after the band's first album and released on 22 November 1963!!.

The album features eight original compositions (including the first by George Harrison) and six covers, mostly of Motown and R&B hits. Most of the songs from the album were released in the United States on Meet the Beatles on 20 January 1964!.

The LP had advance orders of a half million and sold another half million by September 1965 — making it the second album to sell a million copies in the UK (the first being the South Pacific soundtrack). It stayed at the top of the charts for 21 weeks, displacing Please Please Me, so that the Beatles occupied the top spot for 51 consecutive weeks. It even reached number eleven in the "singles charts" (because at the time UK charts counted all records sold, regardless of format).

I have carefully played the album twice before listing at high volume using my mono dedicated system and am pleased to say that it plays through with absolutely no skips, loud pops or jumps. In fact the album plays loud and vibrant with great mono reproduction almost through the entire album, very quiet between tracks, very rare to find on an album of this age. The audio has only the odd bit of crackle and very odd tick and I only heard 1 light pop. I did not hear anything which spoilt my overall enjoyment of the music it is a very collectable example especially as a rare Decca contract pressing. As I normally say a certain amount of static / dirt type noise has got to be allowed for in an album of this age.

THE VINYL

The vinyl is of course the heavy robust early type, and generally clean considering this is a 47 year old vinyl, there are a number of scuffs/needle marks but nothing at all which causes any major problems with the audio.

THE COVER 

This is the original Garrod & Lofthouse laminated front flipback and is generally in good condition, there is some laminate creasing a minor tear to the opening edge front and a couple of small marks on the rear. Corners have a small amount of storage wear and the spine is straight with all the writing perfectly clear and legible. The inner sleeve is the original Emitex poly lined one with no writing or edge splits while it shows a little storage wear, there is a minor tear to the centre hole is very presentable.

THE LABELS 

The labels that feature the ultra rare ridge or groove only found on Decca contract pressings are the early press only yellow and black Parlophone.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
