Description
Rare1940 original Decca Album number 74, the 1939 film soundtrack of "The Wizard of OZ” starring Judy Garland. Although it says "Original Cast Album,” the songs were not the versions used in the movie itself. Decca had Judy Garland record "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "The Jitterbug" (which was cut from the movie) for a 78 single. Garney Bell takes the part of the Cowardly Lion, Bud Lyon sings the Tin Woodsman (while composer Harold Arlen voices the Scarecrow. Judy Garland is the only film cast member to actually appear on the album.
The inside cover includes 22 stills from the movie, with text telling the story. There were also printed signatures from Judy Garland and composers Harold Arlen, and Yip Harburg.
The four records look their age, but play fine. On the second side, “The Jitterbug,” there is a chip out of the plastic at the edge of the record, before the groove begins. The cover has plenty of wear, and the front cover is detached. The sideboard is missing its top layer.
