Very Near Mint Robert Stace Gatefold Cover!
Rare and Scarce Progressive Rock Jazz Psych Album in this Top Condition!
Barely ever played no more than a handful of times ever! Unbelievably rare to find after 41 years like this!
Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have acquired over a period of more than 45 years! Here is a very scarce and rare original earliest 1st UK pressing of Darryl Way's Wolf Debut lp called 'Canus Lupus' a mesmorizing album to listen to throughout. A progressive psychadelic rock album touching on Jazz feel. This album was purchased by me from new in 1973 and initially only ever played to record to tape, and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleev for protection. This is how I have always stored my records. The vinyl and audio is graded near mint through out. The audio is rich and vibrant only heard like this on the original early pressings! The 1st issue unlaminated Robert Stace gatefold cover is also in exceptional condition for a 41 year old album now deleted very rare to find and collectable like this indeed.
Listen to the complete album for yourself in the player below. (Actual recording from the vinyl)
Darryl Way formed a new band called WOLF or DARRYL WAY'S WOLF after CURVED AIR fell apart in 1972-1973 who carried on much in the same style as CURVED AIR. The band compromised of Darryl Way (naturally) on violin and keyboards, Ian Mosley on drums (later to be in TRACE, STEVE HACKETT's band and of course MARILLION), John Etheridge on guitar (later to be a member of SOFT MACHINE) and Dek Messacar on bass (later to be a member of CARAVAN).
They recorded three albums ("Canis Lupus" (1973), "Saturation Point" (1973) and "Night Music" (1974) of mainly instrumental tracks heavily influenced by classical music. Comparisons to CURVED AIR are inevitable as well as CARAVAN and ELP.
Darryl Way (born 17 December 1948, in Taunton, Somerset) is a British rock and classical musician who was a founding member of Curved Air and co-writer of their only hit single, "Back Street Luv". He is best known as a violinist although he also plays keyboards.
He began his musical training at Dartington College of Arts, and later studied at the Royal College of Music. When he met Francis Monkman, they formed the band Sisyphus, which evolved into Curved Air.
After three albums and a hit single with Curved Air, he left in 1972 and formed the band Darryl Way's Wolf, which also recorded three albums before splitting. His next band, Stark Naked & the Car Thieves, went on hiatus when Curved Air reformed in late 1974. After their Curved Air – Live album, Curved Air split, only to be reformed by Way primarily using members of Stark Naked & the Car Thieves.
He recorded two studio albums with this new incarnation of the group before leaving again.
He played on two tracks on Jethro Tull's 1978 album Heavy Horses. He then went on to release several solo albums, including Concerto for Electric Violin, which premiered on the South Bank Show with the Royal Philharmonia Orchestra in 1978. There was a subsequent performance at Leeds Town Hall in the early 1980s which was broadcast live on BBC Radio Leeds.
Curved Air reunited briefly in 1990 and a live recording of their reunion concert was released in 2000.
In November 1996 his own opera, The Russian Opera, was premiered at The Place Theatre in London, and his song writing work includes music settings to lyrics by Steven Berkoff.
In 2008 he took part in a series of Curved Air reunion concerts.

The Vinyl
This is the original and heavier and thicker \ deeper grooved type of vinyl only found on these early pressings! Later press were much more flimsier and less robust.
On initial visual inspection the vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and still retains its original sheen from new and looks absolutely superbe, In fact it is hard for me to even see any scratches on the surface at all,, at least nothing that would cause any clicks or pops. Any other marks that could possibly be seen angled to strong light would be light whyspy sleeve removal only! Importantly I can see (no) needle or audio sounding marks that would cause loud annoying constant clicks or pops! It is obvious that this has only been played two or three times ever from new by myself only!
The audio quality
I have played this vinyl track for track two times at very loud volume prior to listing, on a top system In my opinion it is obvious to me that visualy and audibly from the moment that the needle hits the playing surface that this vinyl has barely ever been played at all. The audio is clear sharp and very vibrant through out! Near as mint on my systems any static heard is very minor and could do with a constant cleaning before play because this has been stored dormant for over 40 years!
The audio is awesome crystal clear and vibrant through out! Please note! With (no) signs of distortion or any signs of grooveware! Being the original 1st UK pressing makes this one of the most vibrant sounding vinyls of this pressing that I have heard, such as real pleasure to play, I really wanted to play and play this album over and over again Please look at my completed listing of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT THE RECORDS THAT I LIST WOULD KNOW THAT MY PRIME INTEREST IS THE AUDIO QUALITY IT IS MY OPINION AFTER PLAYING THIS ALBUM A FEW TIMES THE AUDIO IS GRADED AT THE TOP! Please note these earliest pressings are cut at a louder volume than later pressings that I have heard, in my opinion a much more enjoyable experiance! Please take the time to listen to the complete album in the player avove digitally recorded and is much more unforgiving than analogue systems but a good way to hear any imperfections in my opinion! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint through out!
Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that i sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static in quieter places but not consistent through out the audio! This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 40 years old and would have been played on a system that is 40 years old!
Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality.
Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.
The labels
These feature the red Stereo decca/Deram labels (only 1st press) these are in superb condition. I can just about see two spider trails on each side around the spindle hole, this has obviously barely ever been played and certainly not over played in my opinion. No spindle ware around the the hole this is perfectly round. (UK pressing)
The cover
The cover has always been stored separately from the vinyl in a case for over 40 years!
This is the UK un-laminated gate fold covermade Printed in England by MacNeil Press! I can see no real creases and any blemishes are very minor indeed. Any rubbing wear you have to look hard to see any at the edges. All text is visable. No rubbing at the spine to report. no real ringwear. I would grade this cover at least excellent plus if not better in my opinion.
The Stereo Decca poly lined record sleeve
This is the original poly lined Decca Stereo sleeve minor light general creasings with age. (see photos) No splits or tears, lovely clean and white without the normal staining often seen. The date 73 is printed on one side. This is the original!
