Description
JAZZ seldom gets better than this: Here's JELLY ROLL MORTON on piano, with JOHNNY DODDS (clarinet) and BABY DODDS (drums). They give optimal performances of the immortal "WOLVERINE BLUES" and "MR. JELLY LORD," both Morton compositions.
Morton starts "Wolverine" as a piano solo, getting through the first two strains all by himself, without you missing a thing. Then the Dodds brothers enter with the third strain, making it a trio, and it's all over, Jack! This is virtuoso contrapuntal New Orleans jazz, as serious as Bach, as joyful as the Sun coming up. An irresistible, stone classic.
"MR. JELLY LORD" is built from the same ingredients.
This original 1927 "Scroll" Victor 21064 is in ever-so-slightly worn EE- condition. Light patina of wear. Minor scratches.
