THESE SIDES, from March and December 1929, by "FATS" WALLER AND HIS BUDDIES, combine to make one of the hottest, most exuberant and joyous jazz records ever: 

Right from the edge, "WON'T YOU GET OFF IT, PLEASE?" is a stupendous romp! "Fats" recruited these guys straight from the Sunday afternoon "Breakfast Dance" at the Lenox Club in Harlem. They all are amazing, at the top of their form, full of champagne and lox-and-bagels, out to impress each other.  Blithely overlooking any contractual or racial restrictions, they hit the ground running and never quit till it was over.  For a unique band that never played together except in the studio, the ensemble heat, ass-over-teakettle attitude and precision attack defies gravity! And the SOLOS!  SAVOR this amazing personnel:

HENRY ALLEN, LEONARD "HAM" DAVIS (trumpets), JACK TEAGARDEN, J.C. HIGGINBOTHAM (!!) (trombones), CHARLIE HOLMES, ALBERT NICHOLAS, LARRY BINYON (saxophones), THOMAS "FATS" WALLER (piano), WILL JOHNSON (banjo), POPS FOSTER (bass), KAISER MARSHALL (drums). 

The flip side, "HARLEM FUSS," issued under the same name, is by a quintet, a completely different band formed under completely different circumstances, but is equally satisfying, spontaneous and hot:  CHARLIE GAINES (trumpet), CHARLIE IRVIS (trombone), ARVILLE HARRIS (clarinet, tenor & alto saxes), "FATS" WALLER (piano) and EDDIE CONDON (banjo).  

All round, a killer-diller of a record!  

THIS original 1930s reissue on Australian HMV E. A. 3713 is in immaculate EE+ condition.  Master-pressed on shiny, glossy laminated stock, quieter than the original 1929 Victor, this record sounds fantastic.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care.
