Description
Issued in the UK in 1972 by York Records,which was a subsidiary of Decca Records,this is the debut album from Wooden Horse. The band members were Malcolm Harrison,(vocals / acoustic guitar), Stephen Marwood, (lead acoustic guitar), David Mateer, (vocals/acoustic guitar), Neil Brockbank,(bass), and Susan Traynor,(vocals). Susan Traynor went on to join the seventies band Fox, who had hits with "Only you can", and "Single Bed". Another Fox member was Gary Taylor formerly of The Herd. Susan Traynor then went solo as Noosha Fox,and had a few hits such as "Georgina Bailey" etc.
This 12 track album was released in 1972 by York records, (Cat No FYK 403).
Pressed on heavy duty vinyl, the Matrix numbers are XZAL 11135P-1L, and XZAL 11136P-1L.
Visually stunning,the record still retains its original sheen,with just a few very light surface marks, there are no major marks, and certainly no deep scratches.
The dark blue centre labels are in excellent condition,with just a few very light spindle wear marks,barely visable. There isn't any writing anywhere on the labels.
When played,because this is an acoustic folk album, there is some background surface noise throughout the album, especially during the quieter moments,for instance, during the instrumental parts and also between tracks. Once the vocals start, the surface noise is less noticeable, but still there. I would rate the record as Very Good (VG).The album comes with its original blue Decca Records innner sleeve,also VG.
The sleeve ,(which only features three band members, David Mateer, Malcolm Harrison and Susan Traynor),has some light ringwear on the front and back. The spine is intact,with some light wear,but "Wooden Horse York FYK 403" is still visable on the spine. There aren't any splits or tears on the sleeve, just some browning with age on the back, but nothing major. There isn't any writing or drawing anywhere on the sleeve.All in all, this is a pretty decent copy of a very rare album, and at only $50 dollars,it is a steal.
