PROMO 3-LP 1970




Imagine being the DJ who got this one first. Officially it was "Music From the Original Soundtrack [of Michael Wadleigh's documentary feature film Woodstock] And More," this triple-LP commonly known as 'Woodstock' was really rock's first "coffee table" album. Each artist is represented by one or two tracks and no more than 15 minutes of music by any single performer.

It sold millions of copies, but this PROMO was among the first pressed up. Highlights vary from listener to listener, but among them are the introduction of Crosby, Stills & Nash and the introduction of Neil Young as the fourth member of the group; Joe Cocker on his way up the superstar ladder; and Jimi Hendrix waking up the crowd with a transcendent live set.

The original, domestic triple-LP vinyl version had notoriously noisy pressings, and the original master suffered from all of the sound leakages and other defects inherent in recording live in the open air in front of several hundred thousand people. Even so – it was one helluva album!
