This is an absolutely authentic copy of a Near Mint The Beatles and Frank Iflield Portrait Cover Vee Jay VJLP-1085 1964 - Only 100 copies are believed to have ever been made!
From Rare Beatles: This is one of the RAREST & MOST VALUABLE Beatles records ever!
HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE:
This is the reissue of The Beatles and Frank Ifield On Stage (Jolly What!) album and was pressed shortly before VeeJay lost their rights to The Beatles in the US to Capital Records in 1964 and hardly made it to record stores before those rights to sell it were revoked.
It is believed that only 100 copies made it into stores before it had to be pulled!
Sadly, like Introducing The Beatles and John Lennon's "Roots" album there are far more counterfeit copies than real ones.
This is not only 100% authentic it is near mint!
How do you know it's real?
For a start, please see my other listings and recently sold items... I have been collecting Beatles memorabilia for over 40 years!
I plan to sell my entire collection over the next year or so as I downsize through various forums, including but not limited to eBay.
I am currently cataloging my entire collection which takes some time.
But I digress...
- Genuine portrait covers have excellent, sharp print quality, with a dark blue cover, almost navy with a speckled blue/green background and the catalog number on the bottom right. I have circled those authentic indicators in the pics. Counterfeits have a lighter blue cover and sometimes blurred or low quality printing.
- The seat for John is clearly here, an artifact that was cut out when counterfeiters were recreating the sleeve for bootlegging. Some fake copies put the seat back in when it became apparent it was an easily identifiable attribute however it is never as sharp or defined as the original which is clearly visible here.
- Inside the mouth, at the top and the bottom, the overlaps are appropriate 1/4 inch. On fakes this is either much longer - nearly 1/2" or missing entirely.
- As for the disc, the Audiomatrix stampers are visible and clear and the MR (Monarch Records) circle stamp is also clearly visible. These only feature on genuine discs and are either missing on fake records or have been crudely etched in.
- The Veejay Oval Rainbow Labels are only on the genuine discs (just like first press Introducing The Beatles) although I have heard a few unicorns with back and silver labels may exist I have not been able to verify they are legitimate.
All components of this LP are visually graded at NM. I have never played this record but there are no signs of play or scratches on the disc. I observed only a few dust specks from age and storage that did not detract from the high gloss shine of the disc. The Cover, Sleeve, Spine, Disc and Labels are all NM+.
- As this is one of the rarest records of all time often selling in double digits with very few sales recorded in recent years in the condition of this record, this is priced to sell fast to a lucky collector!
I pack all records in a strong appropriately sized corrugated box with multiple layers of padding and cardboard protection between components as well as separate plastic covers for all components. I will free ship with insurance, Fed Ex Priority - Adult signature required in the US lower 48 only.
