This auction is for an original 45 RPM promo record titled Walking (not Walkin') After Midnight by Calvin Coolidge, with the flip side Hidin' Out. It's on the Calvin Coolidge label, and the number is CC-15-A-C.

Your probably thinking, what the heck, a dead president singing a cover of a Patsy Cline song? Well, here's the story as my research has found:

It's NOT really Calvin Coolidge, but the point was to get some attention for this single and to put it out under a guy's name for other country singers. This is a rarely seen single pressed up by Four Star Sales, who held the publishing to these two songs. They were hoping to double their royalties by tempting a male singer to do a version of the Patsy Cline tune. What better way than to let them hear it as a guy would sound like singing it. So here they've taken the master tape and slowed it down just enough to make it seem like it's a guy's voice, then press up the record with that version. This is the same recording as the hit song, but to get it to play correctly you'd have to spin it up at about 60 rpm.

Other sources say that there were 250 copies of this record that were sent to select radio stations throughout the country. This one was sent to KOXR 910 AM in Oxnard California, 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, which at the time played a variety of music, including country. The record is still in its original KOXR Recordvelope sleeve.

I'm not a record dealer, but I've been buying and collecting records since I was 10 years old in 1963 (yes, I'm a geezer). I'm selling this record since it's just too rare and valuable to risk putting it in one of my jukeboxes. I'm no expert on grading, but I'll do my best to honestly describe the condition. The labels on both sides show no wear or fading, and have no writing or tags on them. On the vinyl, I don't visibly see any scratches or imperfections. The record lays nice and flat, with no signs of warpage. I would guess the condition to be excellent (more or less).

This may be the nicest remaining copy of this rare record, and is probably the only one with original documentation as to where it originated.
