Description

Landowska, Wanda. (1879-1959)

Bach – The Well-Tempered Clavier (Complete), Limited Edition. Deluxe RCA Victor set of six 331/3 LPs (LM-6800), housed in a beautiful gilt-stamped black silk spiral binder. One of a special Limited Edition, this copy hand numbered No. 1195 with an enormous signature opposite a beautiful portrait of Landowska. By the time of these recordings, Landowska had made many recording already, but the decision to record the entire WTK was a landmark effort for the time. The recordings were made in many sessions, usually recording only one prelude and fugue at a time, and took place over five years. The first sessions were held an RCA studio in NYC, but apparently this proved inconvenient due to the heat and sounds of air conditioning, and so the remainder of the sessions were held in Ms. Landowska’s country house in CT. The results were - ARE - magnificent.
