Up for auction is Wardell Gray and Dexter Gordon's "The Chase and The Steeple Chase" on Decca DL 7025
Let me first say that I've never listed an LP in this condition before. I've graded it Very Good but IF you use the Goldmine grading system it may be slightly better than that. In near mint condition this LP lists for $250.
I bought a collection of about 100 jazz LPs of which at least 20 are either VERY RARE or semi-rare but the condition these LPs are in is something that I would normally pass on. I've included a photo of Charlie Parker's Alternate masters Vol. 1 just to show what the covers looked like when I got this collection. I will also list that LP if this one gets bid on.
CONDITION: This LP cover was taped on 3 sides with masking tape which I carefully removed using a heat gun. The cover is seam split almost all the way on the bottom and 2/3rds of the way on top. The spine is still good and most of the printing is still readable
The LP will PLAY without any skips but there is almost constant surface noise that is not as noticeable as on the Charlie Parker LP I listed today from the same collection. The music is pretty dynamic which covers most of the surface noise but it is still there. The music still comes through clear without groove damage distortion. The LP is scuffed with minor scratches that don't effect play. The sound is pretty good considering I listen to a lot of audiophile recordings.
I play grade my LPs and will not misrepresent the condition they are in. The only reason this is even for sale is because of it's rarity and musical content. I've recorded it to cassette using my Nak Dragon and for me it's still fun to listen to.
The opening bid will be very reasonable for what it is.
