Description

You are bidding on the rare LP:

Washington Phillips- What Are They Doing In Heaven Today?, released by Mississippi Records (MR-006) out of Portland, OR.  Limited Edition of 500 copies.  Out-of-Print.  Includes the Dolceola insert (see photo).

*When it comes to pre-war Gospel music, it seems that Washington Phillips resided in a place that was all his own.  He can't really be compared to any artist of that time or any time, for that matter.  To put it simply, listening to this record might be the closest taste of heaven that you'll ever get while here on Earth.  Phillips' music is the most peaceful, genuine & strangest in the stacks.  "Heavenly" is the only way it can be described.  Some believe Phillips performed on the Dolceola (a strange, miniature grand piano), but Frank Walker, who first recorded Washington, claimed that he played a homemade instrument that, "nobody on earth could use except him."  This features some timeless beauties of the sincerest of music, including "Lift Him Up, That's All", "What Are They Doing In Heaven Today?", "Denomination Blues Pts. 1 & 2" and "I Was Born to Preach the Gospel".*

The thick Vinyl is visually graded in VG+ condition.  When looked at under a very bright light, the record shows a very rich luster and a few, incredibly light surface marks.

The Cover is still in its shrink and is graded in VG+ condition, just showing some incredibly minor edge wear.

Shipping is calculated by ebay at the actual cost for you, the consumer. I don't charge any extra fees for material or handling.

For combined shipping, please add $1 for each additional LP you purchase. If you buy many records from me, I can ship them all together in one box, and charge you the actual cost I pay at the post office. International customers, please keep in mind that once you reach 4 pounds (roughly 4 LPs+), 1st Class International is no longer a shipping option, and you must ship Priority or Express.

Insurance is your option as a buyer. International customers, please keep in mind that you can only insure your item if you ship Express, which can be very expensive. Please contact me if you would prefer this option.

Please take a look at my other auctions.  Consider these listings my holiday gifts to you.  This week I'll be listing 50 LPs of various American "Roots" music: Pre-war Blues & Gospel, Jug Bands, Hokum, very obscure Post-war Gospel & Blues, Zydeco, Cajun, Old-time Country, historical anomalies, artistic uncategorizable roots, Bluegrass, Hillbilly Bop, Rockabilly, classic Honky-tonk, as well as the straight-up bizarre.  There'll will be more to come shortly after these listings as well, so look alive.  Checking out my listings will certainly be worth your time.  All of my listings are auctions beginning at $4.95 with no reserve, and these fantastic releases are the real-deal, with the utmost quality. Thanks!

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. Please communicate with me via ebay messages, not e-mail.
