Another rare and hard to find UK Jazz Stereo LP record from our private collection
"Where Fortune Smiles" by John McLaughlin, John Surman and others. Rare early 70s Jazz Fusion LP Dawn DNLS3018 Stereo. First pressing, Matrix numbers on run out are DNLS 3018 A-1 & DNLS 3018 B-1. Pye Records launched the Dawn Label in 1970 to become it's progressive arm, to compete with Deram (Decca), Harvest (EMI) and Vetrigo (Phillips). It's Discography lists this LP as under John Surman's name, but it is normally filed under McLaughlin's name because of his more widespread fame. As well as these two Brits on Saxes and Guitar respectively, there's German Karl Brerger on Vibes, American Stu Martin on Drums and Britains Dave Holland on Bass. As well as it's historical significance this is a superb example of the Jazz Fusion that was around at the time. Condition Vinyl - Excellent, it looks and plays near mint. No scratches, clicks or pops. The characteristic Black on Orange labels show little or no evidence of play. Cover - The matt, unlaminated gatefold cover is clean with no pressure or ring marks and the gold mandalas are really distinct. The inside is also clean. There is a scuff on the top edge and some slight wear on the bottom edge (see photos). The Mandala insert is intact. Inner sleeve - Plastic lined, intact with just some age discolouration around the edges.
