WhoMadeWho is a Copenhagen-based experimental pop trio, who formed in 2003. The band consists of jazz guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg, drummer Tomas Barfod and singer/bassist Tomas Høffding.
The band released several 12-inches on German disco label Gomma Records including Out the Door and Space to Rent, culminating in their self-titled debut album WhoMadeWho in 2005. In 2009 they released their second album The Plot, the third album Knee Deep was released in 2011 followed by Brighter in 2012. The next album Dreams was released in 2014, and the latest Through The Walls in 2018.
As a live band, WhoMadeWho has played alongside genre bending contemporaries Daft Punk, Soulwax, Hot Chip, Justice and LCD Soundsystem. After touring together Hot Chip asked to remix their single "TV Friend", and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age has covered "Space to Rent".
Boomkat Product Review:
Copenhagen's premier pop trio present their eagerly anticipated follow-up to 'Knee Deep', their first album for Kompakt last year. 'Brighter' finds them refining their art to a knife-throwers intuition and accuracy, masking highly considered composition and arrangement with a slim-fitting and cocksure disco-punk cool. Ever since their 2005 debut on the widely revered Gomma imprint, Whomadewho have been picking up plaudits from diverse, and perhaps unexpected sources, counting QOTSA's Josh Homme as a big fan (he even covered 'Space For Rent' from their debut LP) and positing themselves as staples on the summer festival circuit to perform alongside the likes of Daft Punk and Azari & III - two other acts who've executed successful indie/dancefloor crossovers. And they've done all this without ever straying from their original, individual sound, fusing silver-tipped pop hooks with sleek contemporary disco rhythms from an effete, dandy-ish Indie perspective. On this album, destined to be their biggest yet, you'll find straight aces on the glam swagger joint 'The Sun' and the melancholic beauty 'Below The Cherry Moon', plus more exploratory dance-pop like 'Greyhound' and the 'floor warping potency of 'Never Had The Time'.
