Description
"Dallas Blues" by Wilbur Sweathman's Original Jazz Band, issued on 5" Little Wonder disc, Number 996. Recorded October 1918. This is a single-sided disc made around the time the same title was recorded for Columbia on Oct. 4. Artist name not listed on the label but Sweatman is documented as the artist in Brian Rust's "Jazz and Ragtime Records" (Mainspring Press edition, page 1645). Record is in VG+ condition. Minor wear and several very slight indentations that cause momentary light thumping. Light distortion, especially toward the first few seconds. Record plays through fine with decent fidelity, considering how close the grooves are together! Despite all this, the performance is an excellent example of early recorded jazz, free-wheeling with none of the barnyard effects normal for the period.
