Witches Brew: RCA Living Stereo; LSC 2225; Original Shaded Dog issue from 1958; Works include: Arnold: Overture To Tam O'shanter; Moussorgky: Excerpt from Pictures at an Exhibition, Gnomes; Moussorgsky/Rimsky Korsokoff: A Night on Bald Mountain; Saint Saens: Danse Macabre; Himperdinck; Witches' Ride from Hansel and Gretel; Liszt: Mephisto Waltz. Alexander Gibson and the New Symphony Orchestra of London.
This is a mighty fine playing record. I won't go into the sound much, suffice to say, as most of you know it's considered one of the sonic glories of the Golden Age of Hi Fi recording. It seems like it's been on HP's Super Disc List from it's inception. Upon visual inspection I couldn't find a mark on it...and I looked, closely! And the playing? Absolutely marvelous! The only reason I didn't rate it NM- is that in the quiet passages there is a slight amount of static/surface noise what ever you want to call it that comes through as well as on the lead in and lead out grooves. That's it! For a 57 year old record that is remarkable. So I'll keep it at a very solid EX. Incredibly dynamic! And I might remind you that I only do a light brush clean with a Decca record brush. So, should you have one of them fancy vacuum record cleaning machines who knows how much of the static that I mentioned is dust and not part of the vinyl. Ok, now to the jacket, commonly referred to as the album cover. It's in quite good condition, the only issue with it is there's a small - about 1/4-1/2 inch - split in it at the bottom right hand side, where the record is inserted and removed from the cover. I did my best to show it in the photo above. The inner sleeve in is awful condition. Torn, doesn't hold the record. I will provide the winner with a new inner sleeve and include the original for collectibility. Matrix numbers; side 1; 1s side 2: 1s I know, hard to believe, but that's what it says.
I couldn't find the marking for where it was pressed, but my educated guess would be Hollywood, because the edge of the record has that slightly sharp edge of a Hollywood pressing. Don't hold me to that though.
