Description
An original 1st Stereo issue of WTB on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 2/2 - very 1st cut. So, collectors will obviously be looking for those very sought after very earliest 1st pressings [Jobete publishing] which would have been produced in October/November. But this copy [Belinda] will come hot on the heels of those very 1st pressings and would have been intended for supplying the Xmas-1963 market [whilst it still topped the charts]. How can we be sure? Because the labels have the wide/ chubby font found only on those earliest copies. Also, the perimeter text reads 'Parlophone' still and 'Recording 1st pub' is also still evident. But the clincher is the stamper numbers "1-M/3-M" - which is very early particularly on a Stereo copy. Given that stereo was still selling in very limited numbers at this point we can be almost certain that this copy would have been available for sale in "Dec-1963". The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original G&L stereo cover with flipbacks. Also included is an original 1963 Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) Wow, this is one sweet looking 1963 copy which has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Now, don't underestimate this level of playback... we're saying that this stereo original copy from 1963 is still playing at Ex+. I can't begin to tell you how unusual that is! The Jobete copies go for a fortune in this sort of condition so this copy may suit a collector wishing to bag a great player at a more reasonable price. One thing I can guarantee you is that the audio will match and better pretty much any copy out there. It's getting close to perfect and I'm really struggling to find fault. Great vibrancy and energy as the early original copies have a reputation for. Interference is largely absent. Expect nothing more than a couple of crackles in a coupe of isolated moments per side. Pretty much as good as ANY original 1963 WTB copy I've ever auditioned.
Cover (Vg+) Lovely front cover with that iconic image looking very sweet indeed. All I can make out are a couple of thumbnail creases at the opening and then a couple of other creases. The rear loooks very nice, but has lightly tanned as many examples will do. But there's nothing unsightly, or any heavy marks. Flipbacks are all intact and secure. Edge wear is very light and the spine 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A beautiful GENUINE 1963 example.
