1963 UK MONO PRESSING LP

This early UK mono pressing dates from late 1963 & has -1N/-1N matrices. This cut featured the earliest and most powerful mix which was withdrawn a matter of days after release after complaints from buyers about 'jumping'. However, no such problems exist when played on modern turntables and you can enjoy the massive & incredible initial mix as it was originally approved and intended to be heard.

Most discs with this cut exist with the 1st label variant carrying the 'Jobete' publishing credit for the song 'Money'. However, this copy carries the 2nd variant where the publishing credit for the song 'Money' has been corrected to 'Dominion.Belinda'.

The label itself is the familiar yellow & black Parlophone designs with the catalogue number: PMC 1230

Both labels omit the 'Sold in UK..' text but have 'Parlophone Co. Ltd..' worded rims.

Both label & cover bear the incorrect 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me' title.

The 'KT' purchase tax code is visible around the side 2 centre hole.

Housed in the rarer front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover.

Complete with its original 'Use Emitex..' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

Labels: VERY GOOD +

A clean & bright set with numerous spindle marks and slight wear to each centre hole but no major blemishes.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are extremely clean & retain all of thier 'as new' deep-gloss shine. There are several light surfaces marks present when viewed in strong daylight but nothing deep or heavy. Close inspection directly beneath halogen light reveals no addition marks or wear to either side. This is an extremely heavy disc which lies 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Play: VERY GOOD +

Despite having been played many times, the incredible power of this mix shines through on every track. My careful play-check at volume did detect slight groove/play wear but this was only really noticeable on the track 'Til There Was You'. Both run-ins and all bands play without interference and overall it is a very enjoyable, fault-free listening experience.

Cover

VERY GOOD

An extremely respectable example of this easily blemished cover. The front panel is clean & glossy with just several light laminate wrinkles but no heavy creasing or wear. There is some minor shelfwear to the lower corners and some light wear to the front opening edge but no tears anywhere. The rear panel is bright, clean & white & unblemished by any marks, writing or missing paper. There is a little wear to the upper and lower flipbacks edges but no missing paper. Both seams are smooth with no flaking laminate, stresses or splits and the spine is fully worded and undamaged.

Inner-sleeve

VERY GOOD

Clean & flat overall with a few tiny age-spots but no seam splits or any other major faults.
