Description

I am offering a three record set of Woody Guthrie songs on the Asch label. All records are 78 rpm, and I believe original to Guthrie's session with Moses Asch in the 1944 - 1945 timeframe. All records do show wear or use, but all three play fine. Included are: 347 1A - Talking Sailor; 347 1B - Coolee Dam; 347 2A - Ranger's Command; 347 2B - Gypsy Davy; 347 3A - Jesus Christ; and 347 3B - NY Town. All six cuts are Guthrie classics, and the lyrics appear inside the front jacket cover - while the inside back cover contains Guthrie's first person summation of each song. As an added bonus - the top of the page inside the front cover contains a preface by John Steinbeck, and I quote "Harsh voiced and nasal, his guitar hanging like a tire iron on a rusty rim, there is nothing sweet about Woody, and there is nothing sweet about the songs he sings. But there is something more important for those who will listen. There is the will of a people to endure and fight against oppression. I think we call this the American spirit."
