Cover: Single-cover textured sleeve printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. There is some edge-wear and some corner-wear, and the back cover shows some light ring-wear. At first sight there appears to be very little edge-wear and corner-wear; however, upon closer inspection, it is clear that there was some wear at the corner-tips and the bottom edge, but this has been repaired with some clean and careful paintwork using a black marker pen, such that it is barely noticeable. There also appears to be a small sticker-removal tear on the front top-right corner; but again, barely noticeable because it has been repaired quite cleanly with a black marker pen. There is some glue residue on the bottom edge, which has stained with age (visible in third photo); however, there are no seam-splits. There is some light ringwear on the rear of the cover and four tears, no doubt caused by attempts to remove the glue residue. Just to give an indication of the sizes of the tears, the largest is approximately 2cm x 1cm; the smallest is approximately 5mm x 3mm. The opening edges are quite clean and straight, with just a very hint of feathering. The spine shows very little signs of wear and is still in nice shape, with the text clear and legible. Still a nice cover for its age, but downgraded to VG, because of the tears and the minor repair-work.
Inner Sleeve: Original white poly-lined inner sleeve with blue “U.K. Patent No. 1,072,844” and “Foreign Patents Pending” text. The sleeve has discoloured with age and all three seams have split, although the splits are not large (4.5cm, 4cm and 1cm).
Labels: Original sky-blue labels with a few faint spindle trails on both sides.
Vinyl: Looks near-mint under normal lighting. Under a halogen light, I can see a few very fine, insignificant sleeve removal marks, none of which affect playback. Middle Earth were not renowned for having the best pressings; as a consequence, there is some very light surface noise, which is only noticeable in between tracks or during quieter moments. It certainly isn’t loud or intrusive and does not detract from the music itself. Otherwise, no pops, ticks, skips or distortion. A hugely enjoyable original, but there is that light surface noise, so strictly graded as EX.Additional Info: All of the vinyl that I am selling is from my personal collection, and has been cleaned on a VPI HW 16.5 Record Cleaning Machine. After cleaning, I keep my records in ‘Mobile Fidelity’ rice paper inner sleeves and store them with the records outside of the covers.
