Wynton Kelly "Kelly Blue" 1959

VERY RARE Riverside Recording, RLP 12-298, Mono, Blue Label

After cutting his teeth as a sideman with Miles Davis, Wynton Kelly struck a deal with Riverside to expand and diversify his solo career. His second LP for the label,
"Kelly Blue" finds the renowned pianist as a leader of both sextet and trio, on a group of songs that accords suitably to its description by Riverside's Orrin Keepnews: "a repertoire ideally suited
to the blues concept on which the album is based." Featured musicians in his sextet include Nat Adderley, cornet; Bobby Jaspar, flute; Benny Golson, tenor sax; Paul Chambers, bass; and
Jimmy Cobb, drums. The trio consists just of Kelly, Chambers, and Cobb. The vinyl retains its glossy finish, with a few minor scratches that contribute a slight bit of soft surface noise.
The cover, however, is not in its original shape: the spine is worn almost through, and there is some evident ring-wear on the back side. We regret, as collectors, that we can't have this
record in its mint condition, but this is the finest copy we have ever seen! An important record in an incredibly listenable condition!
