Description
Here is a SUPER RARE vintage record from my collection offered up for auction: The first pressing of the Beach Boys album "SURFIN' USA",Released in 1963 on Capitol records with the heavy vinyl and black "colorband" labels, T-1890 (Mono), This is the scarce 1st pressing which credits songwriting on "Surfin' USA" to Brian Wilson! Chuck Berry's attorneys rightly pointed out that the song bore a strong resemblance to Berry's smash hit "Sweet little 16". Everybody agreed and the presses were stopped and labels changed to give Chuck Berry sole songwriter credits and royalties! Berry wrote a song called "Surfer's steal" as a slight jab at the band. Wilson went on to prove to be a fine innovative songwriter without need to steal anyone's songs.Capitol executives themselves were in error and should have noted the similarity before release! This is a RARE historic pressing offered here!
The heavy weight vinyl shows a lot of wear, grades Good+/VG, Has a heavy feel-able mark in "Stoked" but plays though with some popping. Has been PLAY TESTED, plays from start to finish with good/VG sound quality! NO skips or jumps. Includes vintage printed Capitol inner sleeve in very good condition, clean. (see all pictures)
The cover rates strong VG+, is super clean, has deep color with no ring wear, edges and corners excellent, no splits, top & bottom seam neatly repaired with clear tape. binder edge is VG and readable, no signatures or writing, clean white rear cover.
