VINYL XP FEATURED ITEM REVIEW

This is a rare 1st press of Five Live by The Yardbirds released on December 31st 1964 on Colombia/EMI Records.

 This is a live album original recorded at the Marquee Club at it's original location in Oxford Street either on the 10th or the 20th March and the record certainly captures the atmosphere of Britain at the height of the Beat/Bop/Swinging Sixties era.

The vinyl has retained much of its original sheen, came from the original owner and lays flat on the turntable. The record has been well cared for with limited surface marks and just the occasional light scratch. The quality of the album is difficult to assess due to the fact that it is a live recording but Keith Relf's vocals are well defined, harmonious and clearly audible. The mild distortion of the drums and guitars are what you would expect from a live recording of the day mingled in with the background noise of the crowd and I see no reason to suspect this to be from over use.

The labels have no stickers or writing on them, with the only sign of use being some light - medium spindle wear. They are as clean and as bright as they were when first manufactured - no

fading at all. They are the black labels with the blue"magic note" Colombia logo, Colombia Gramophone Ltd on the rim text and "Sold in U.K. subject...." across the front.

We have graded the cover in VG condition based on the yellowing and general condition of the reverse of the cover and fingering of the opening - see pics. However, lamination is in VG+ condition with some light laminate creases but no major degeneration or peel retaining its original glossy sheen. The spine is also in VG+ condition - the corners slightly worn. The image has not worn and the text is sharp. The sleeve is the original "handling with care" polylined inner in VG condition, creased but intact.

Here at Vinyl XP we are extremely careful in providing an accurate description of vinyl and cover condition using the Record Collectors grading criteria below. We are also careful in researching GENUINE pressing information and will never describe a record in mint condition unless it is sealed. However, mistakes or differences of opinion can happen and we are happy to offer a no questions asked 100% refund policy including return postage costs on receipt of the record back to us. We may ask to see proof of postage costs to avoid unnecessary overheads.

RECORD COLLECTORS GRADING CRITERIA

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any exta items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster should be in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and tear/creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects in acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
