Charly Records have got an essential album for all fans of The Yardbirds here. The Best of The Yardbirds does what it says on the tin and showcases the band's unique mix of blues, rock and psychedelia, which eventually is said to have paved the way for heavy rock. Their sounds are emotionally wrought, their drums purposeful and the drawn-out guitars packed with emo overtones. The vocals sit well in the mix and this fine overview takes in plenty from the important Giorgio Gomelsky recordings which very much defined the sound of the band during their most iconic 1963 through to 1966 period.
