Description
Up for your consideration is a rare and unique signed personal letter from famed 20th century violinist Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999)
Dated January 28, 1943 this letter was sent to a colleague and acquaintance by Menuhin on his hopes of discussing a forthcoming conference for the Jewish Council for Russian War Relief at a New York City cocktail club.
Yehudi Menuhin was not just known for his great talent as a violin virtuoso, but for his deep involvement in foreign matters, often performing for Allied troops overseas during WWII, as well as also performing for Jewish Council for Russian War Relief benefits (perhaps this very one being discussed!).
He was also known for many of his performances in Germany post WW-II. This was done out of a token of reconciliation and hope for a new direction to take hold in Germany, one that also respected all of its people, and of course -- the arts.
The letter is hand signed in what looks like blue ink. This was not from a stamp from a form letter, but his actual signature.
There are 2 mailing folds on the letter.
This letter was acquired direct from the family estate of the family member this was sent to in New Jersey. It is framed in a small clear plastic frame by the original owner some time ago.
