here's a review from Ugly THings:

Incredible Sound Show Stories #5

Released out of sequence, and varying quite widely in theme and content, the vinyl-only Incredible Sound Show Stories series is rich in sound surprises, many volumes featuring previously unreleased material by top drawer bands.

Volume Five: Yellow Street Boutique, is particularly invigorating in this department with previously unheard treasures from the Birds, the Art Wood Combo, and the pre-John's Children aggregation the Silence.

The two Birds tracks - 1964 demos for "You Don't Love Me" and "You're On My Mind" - have since resurfaced on the Birds' Say Those Magic Words boot (reviewed elsewhere this issue). They're both rough, raving versions, just as exciting in their way as the Decca releases. Two `64 demos from the Art Wood Combo pre-date their official releases also, and the uptempo groover "Chicago Calling" is particularly fine.

The Silence, meanwhile are represented by four tracks from a recently discovered 1965 demo tape. "Down Down" is the pick of the litter, an organ-driven mod R&B mover which lacks only a decent guitar or organ break in the middle.

More ultra-obscure Anglo R&Beat is provided by Lester Square & the GTs (featuring one time Yardbird Top Topham on guitar), Blues & Roots, and Stuart Beckett, while Izzy Pound weighs in with a cool amateurish freakbeat piece. The Britannic theme is dampened somewhat by the inclusion of foreign acts like the Throb and Antoine & Les Problemes - great tracks, mind you, but available elsewhere and somewhat out of place here.

A gatefold sleeve with liners and pix (a couple even swiped from these pages - hey, don't make me send the boys over) and a glossy poster of The Silence make this package pretty much a must.
