Fragile is the fourth studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on Atlantic Records. It is the first to feature keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who replaced Tony Kaye in 1971, and cover art by Roger Dean, who would design many of the band's records.
Upon its release in the UK in November 1971, Fragile hit #7 on the UK Album Chart, which would prove its highest position. It later reached #4 on the US Billboard 200[2] during a stay of 46 weeks. Its release in the US was held back for two months because of the chart momentum of their previous record, The Yes Album.
Work on the material began while Tony Kaye was still in the band. In a 2006 interview, he said, "I did rehearse Fragile before I left. I left in the middle." Four of the nine tracks feature full performances by the new line-up with Rick Wakeman, three of which were of eight minutes length or longer. Its best known track, "Roundabout", was released in the US in an edited 3:27 version as a single and peaked at #13 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in April 1972.
Wakeman contributed to the writing of "South Side of the Sky" and "Heart of the Sunrise" by adding piano interludes to both songs, but wasn't credited because of contractual conflicts. He was instead promised more money by Atlantic studio executives, which he claims he never saw.
The cover art design by Roger Dean depicts a tiny planet on the front. On the back, the planet has begun to break up and the population is escaping in a wooden space glider[original research?][citation needed] – a concept that was to inspire Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow, as well as the film Floating Islands. The artwork of Yessongs would continue the narrative.
The LP's accompanying promotional booklet contains two additional Dean paintings; the front cover depicts five different creatures huddled under a root system; the back cover depicts a person climbing up a rock formation.
The inside of the promotional booklet consists of several different photographs of the band members, with an individual page dedicated to each member interspersed with smaller Dean illustrations and photographs of their wives (including Jenny Anderson and Nikki Squire) and children. Anderson's page contained a short poem, while Wakeman's contained a list of acknowledgements, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, The White Bear pub in Hounslow and Brentford F.C.

The Vinyl
The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps. On initial inspection the vinyl is lovely and shiny and retains its original sheen and visably looks like this has barely been played that much in my opinion! I find it hard to see any real marks on the playing surface at least no scratches or marks that would cause any nasty loud clicks or pops! Any marks that could possibly be seen in strong light would be light wyspy sleeve removal type only and perhapes light scuffs only at least none that would have an adverse effect on the audio quality in my opinion!
The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl at very loud volume three times prior to this listing on a top system! The audio is stunning through out cristal clear and very vibrant only found like this on the earliest pressings! Please note there are some very quiet tracks on this album and some allowances should be made for very light back ground static that may be heard on some systems but certainly not consistant through out the audio! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to very near mint for the most part in my opinion!
Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for very light isolated static/ tick that may be heard in quieter places during this vinyl. Please remember that this vinyl is an original 42 years old that would have originally been played on a 42 year old system! The album/vinyl has been stored laying dormant in a case for over 35 years or more and would benefit from a constant cleaning before each play which would enhance the audio quality and pleasure also reducing any static that may be heard!
The record sleeve.
This is a plain white poly lined sleeve with light creasing with age only no edge splits. The Cover This is the original 1st issue un-laminated gatefold cover printed by MacNiel Press Limited. This is lovely and straight with no edge splits. Only on very close inspection i can see light edge rubbing to mention and any marks or indents are minor in my opinion and not noticed unless looked for. There are no real noticable creases to mention on the front and one light crease at the rear again only really noticed if looked for any real rubbing is light in my opinion and is way above average condition in my opinion! The iside of the gate fold in clean and tidy with just one very small scuff tare to mention very small about 3-4mm the booklet is firmly attached glued in and all pages are firm and intact. I would grade the cover at least excellent if not better!
